We think we are making progress in showing people about becoming ‘disability aware’, but sadly we seem to take one step forward and two steps back. Even today we come across people who think it is right to exclude disabled people from their premises because they don’t ‘conform’ to the norm. It is the same with nonsensical comedians who feel they have to ridicule us with their sick jokes. I am even further saddened when able bodied people, who have disabled people within their families, think these ‘jokes’ are hilarious.
We even have a government who call us ‘scroungers and workshy’, but Minsters have no concept as to how we live,or what we have to contend with day after day.
I would love to put them all in a sack and give them a good shaking until they start to understand what being disabled is all about. Let us hope they are never involved in a life changing accident or illness, how would they cope?
