How Do We Get Home Campaign

In April 2012 users of the London Taxicard service who also hold a Blue Badge or a Freedom Pass had their yearly Taxicard trips cut to 52. This works out to one trip a week. I feel this places unfair restrictions on independence, so I started this campaign against the changes.

The changes to Taxicard came just before the 2012 London Mayoral Elections.

What I’m thinking is that it’s one trip every 2 weeks – out and back – unless that’s 52 round trips, which I rather doubt.

Even so, it’s a hell of a lot more than most of us get outside London, which is basically bugger all.

I remember this. This was back when I still had a TaxiCard, before I moved Councils which regrettably when you move Councils the new Council often has different rules for its TaxiCard than the previous Council for its TaxiCard (which of course is completely absurd, since a qualifying permanent physical disability is a qualifying permanent disability is a qualifying permanent disability). At the time I still had this TaxiCard, I remember being shocked at the fact that my number of trips was suddenly cut so steeply. Fortunately I am ambulatory and able to use the bus easily and the Tube with only slightly more effort than easily; many, many, many other physically impaired persons with TaxiCards and Freedom Passes are not similarly equipped.
