    Mr. Holland’s Opus. The main character is not disabled, but the movie carries a very strong sub-theme of dealing with Deafness. It portrays very accurately the struggles of hearing parents raising a Deaf child. I would think it should be on the list.

    The Mighty – about the developing friendship between an extremely bright boy who has ?morquio? Syndrome, and tutors a classmate who is delayed.
    The Other Sister- a young lady returning from her special needs boarding school, embarks on her adult life, despite her mothers fears.
    The Music Within- a young man returns from the Vietnam War, and struggling to deal with his acquired deafness, finds himself rejected from college. He starts trying to help other disabled vets, and realizes he can make a difference. (true story)
    The Black Balloon-a young man moves into a new area and new school, and struggles to fit in, embarassed by his autistic brother.
    I Am Sam-a single father with a developmental disability has to fight social services to retain custody of his daughter.

    How about What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? Leanardo deCaprio plays a boy with Autism. Johnny Depp plays his older brother.
