I’ve noticed over the last few weeks that Conservative minded newspapers are trying to convince the public that things have got better and that most of us are better off than we were before they came to power. This is a very high risk strategy as most people outside the south-east of England are a lot worse off: whether that’s hours worked, ‘take home pay’, job security or news from relatives who are suffering at the hands this government’s welfare changes. Either people have to believe what the right-wing papers are telling the truth and that the suffering they are experiencing, along with that of their neighbours and family members is an illusion or that these news papers are not a trust worthy source of information.
