Sanctioned for making a spelling mistake.
You couldn’t make it up… Well actually it’s become the norm to be sanctioned for making a spelling mistake. A gentleman who spoke to us on our Thursday demo told us that he was put on a three month sanction at Ashton Under Lyne Jobcentre for making a spelling mistake. He wasn’t given a chance to correct it, or a chance to explain it. He was told very bluntly “we are sanctioning you for spelling this word incorrectly on a form. This will prevent you from getting work so therefore is a sanctionable offence”. This man received a three month sanction for this so called offence. No one bothered to ask him if he was dyslexic or had any other issues which may have prevented him from spelling the word correct. Neither is it a crime to spell a word incorrectly. Spelling has not been taught in schools for a long time, and I am over half a century old.
I am amazed the staff know how to spell.
If spelling was required to gain all work, then very few people would be in work. Neither do they know, as not taught, where to put a comma or a full stop.
Grammar has not been taught for the same length of time.
Now if the person is dyslexic (such a hard word for a disability) then reasonable adjustments need to be made, just as if he had sight problems.
But sanctioning for three months, when the staff member says the claimant’s inability to spell stops him from getting work, means the claimant is actively being starved by design.
What job today is not done using computers with spellchecker in Word.
But as the sanction decision-makers have trebled in number since 2006 and the cost of admin of welfare is more than double any money given to the starving (reducing year on year), then the political class is plunging the nation into ever greater national debt, due to the inability of the aristocratic educated political class to comprehend they purport to rule.
There is a way to escape this insanity. See my personal website:
