A Sad Upsetting Morning
Well the press as usual decided to demonize those on benefits, the Mirror – yes The Mirror – ran a story of a young lady with a baby who lived with Mummy & Daddy and saved £3000 benefit money to travel the World………. with baby. Of course Mum & Dad look after her every need but she doesn’t know why poor people complain……She has loads !
Meanwhile elsewhere……..
A Sad Upsetting Morning by Lauren Hopkins
Sad upsetting morning. Elderly man knocks on my door with no shoes and socks on saying he lived here. Clearly cold and confused and luckily a neighbour knew where he lived. He has terminal cancer and clearly vulnerable so I gave him slippers and took him round the corner to his flat. The place was filthy, unsanitary and a hazard.i saw a rat the size of a cat in his kitchen. He was screaming of pain and had to wait for over an hour for an ambulance. Stacks of unopened post which I read and found a letter for DWP reducing his benefits to £20.63 a week, then to reduce further to £16.53 a week in April. No family..no one looking after him except his amazing neighbours who have been feeding him. Amazing ambulance crew took one look and off he went to hospital with unbelievably high blood pressure.
I am so ashamed of our society that we allow extremely vulnerable people to experience this absolute nightmare. It only takes One person to get a local voluntary group going, just to check on those you know you are vulnerable in your street or local area. His neighbour Pat and I are starting this just for our few little streets here, and we have a lot of elderly and disabled in our area so I’m hoping we can at least show our local community we care about them. Times are tough for everyone, but more for some than others. If you are fortunate enough to be able to do anything, then please do. No one else will.

This case is outrageous and an indictment of society today under the coalition government. I help local vulnerable people in my area and if you are going to set up a group like I did, you need to also get some people on board who have skills in dealing with agencies and departments. First of all, I would get his signed authority to get in touch with his doctor and let him know what is going on. Secondly, I would get on to Adult Services and make a referral. Then his landlord and if a social landlord, then request help and renovation/decoration of his flat. If a private landlord, report the case to local Housing Standards. He will need to be moved into supported social housing. Then the DWP – get his benefits reinstated and applications for ESA and PIP made. You can see how you may need someone with skills to help with this. Shelter are very good if there is one local to you. Housing Benefits and social landlords usually have people skilled in benefit matters. Adult Social Services need to be involved and pull in all the help for him. The most importan thing is to get his signed authority first to act on his behalf. It is a lot of work, but with the right support this gentleman’s life can be turned around. Without help and support, he is likely to die. If I lived near, I would do the work for you. I hope you can get the help you need and a big thank you from society for caring about this man and his welfare. Good luck.

Good to see there are still good friends watching out for people in need. This government should be proud of there self. There view on the elderly and disabled is no better than hitler. ( close your eyes and it will disappear. IDS is a very sick man has no compassion for anybody. Mr IDS your day will come.

There is a way to stop all this cruelty and it is in the hands of those who care and who suffer and see those who suffer to bring about a change that would see the so-called big parties out of government.
Because the poor outnumber all other voters in a huge number of areas.
This is not about not being bothered to vote, but to look at the cross by the side of some different party as the means:
– to feed all
– to care for all
– roof over everyone’s head
– dignity not demonising of the poor

God bless that man. I hope the Tories get the boot in May before they can inflict even more pro-rich anti-poor misery.

So were things really that much different five years ago???
Were they hell like social services didn’t give a toss then either.
The big mistake was COMMUNITY CARE because but for the odd one or two people the COMMUNITY DOESN’T CARE!!!
