Micheline Mason, Campaigner For Inclusive Education, Dies Aged 74

September 12, 2024

I am very sad to have just learnt that Micheline Mason has passed away. Micheline was a highly respected campaigner for inclusive education, an issue which is extremely close to my heart. I knew her both online and offline, having met her in person several times and seen her speak at events, particularly during UK Disability History Month. We had many personal friends in common.

As the mother of a disabled daughter, Lucy, Micheline founded the Alliance For Inclusive Education over 30 years ago. Through this very valuable organisation, she helped many severely disabled children access mainstream education and have their academic intelligence recognised.

She was also a writer, particularly of poems such as this:

ALLFIE carries their tribute to Micheline here.

I send my thoughts to Lucy, our mutual friends and all who are affected by this sad loss to the Disability Rights Movement.

RIP Micheline. Thank you for knowing that disabled children CAN, and SHOULD, do everything that everyone else is doing, too.
