ATOS Nurse Writes That PIP Claimant Can Take Nutrition Independently Because They “Looked Overweight”
February 16, 2016
There are some dangerous, disablist attitudes in these assessment offices, readers. This is mainstream madness at its best!
I just got the medical report from my ATOS PIP assessment and the nurse who wrote it has written in the section for taking nutrition, “She looked overweight therefore it is reasonable to assume that she can take nutrition independently,”. as it happens I can and I did expect to get points on this, but I am thinking that a nurse should know better than to write this since i could easily need help to take nutrition and still be overweight. I thought it to be medically incompetient and demeaning and am I thinking about a complaint to the professional body.

Shocking and so insulting.
I can quite understand you considering making a complaint.
I believe you have every justice to do so.
This is ignorant and so discriminatory. I wonder where the idea to write such a thing came from.
Is this kind of attitude encouraged and perhaps elicited from the assessors at the DWP assessment centres I wonder?
I suspect it could be the case as It would fit their ideology.
What we could do with is more whistleblowers to come forward about the tactic and training going on behind secret doors.

Making a complaint goes nowhere (checkout ‘Perverting The Course of Justice’)
Reporting their Crime, at least gets them to crawl back under their rocks.
“She looked overweight therefore it is reasonable to assume that she can take nutrition independently,”
It certainly is *not* “reasonable” to assume that (see other peoples comments here)
Checkout ‘Fraud By False Representation’ in The Fraud Act 2006, Misconduct in Public Office (atos/maximus/etc quacks count), Criminal Attempts Act 1981 and Abuse of Vulnerable Adults.
‘Need To Know’ stuff if you have to go anywhere near any part of the dwp’s gang –
Google criminal offences like –
The Fraud Act 2006
Misconduct in Public Office
Witness Intimidation
Perverting The Course of Justice
Offences Against The Person
Criminal Attempts Act 1981
Serious Crime Act 2007 (especially Part 2)
Accessories and Abettors Act 1861
Theft Act 1968 – Section 21 – Blackmail
Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981
Protection from Harassment Act 1997
and
Abuse of Vulnerable Adults
You could then try Googling “Honest Cop” or “Honest Politician” or “Honest Lawyer” but so far I’ve got zero results for those searches. (see The Bribery Act 2010)

Oh, and don’t forget to record *everything*

It is by no means “reasonable to assume”. The nincompoop should have asked.

Wow, just wow…. I get this all the time, consultants telling me that the reason my Arthritis is so disabling is down to my weight; when in fact my weight (4 stone in 4 years) is because my Arthritis is so disabling!
These people should be suspended until such time they have received proper training..
Better still let the more abled disabled carry out the assessments, Empathy and understanding rather than insults from someone who; what they do is just a job, after all our disabilities/illnesses are not jobs they are our life!
What you can do is contest the decision and open up an enquiry to the comment, after the comment is both judgemental and unprofessional as the question of weight gain was not addressed!
God bless you…

I have the same problem, but my weight gain had been due to prolonged prescribed steroid use, not over eating. The ‘fat” hating I’m fairly sure is DWP training, because we all know that IDS is targeting people who are unable to work because of weight issues. Recently in the news some Baroness Blackwood, who is I think a govt advisor on health was saying that she would advise strongly against withholding benefits to get someone with weight issues back to work. It’s obviously something that has been suggested. It is entirely possible they have been asked to flag up “overweight” in reports to make finding us easier for the next punishment.

I wonder if the ATOS assessors get paid by how fast they can tick all the boxes. Maybe they have targets relating to how many patients they can get through in a given time. That would encourage them to skim through and make ridiculous assumptions as above. Any thoughts anyone?
