Reactions To IDS Benefit Reform Announcement
August 2, 2010
Last Friday, IDS announced plans for a major reform of the benefit system. Today, Ed Jacobs has summarised reactions to these reforms from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales over at mainstream political blog Left Foot Forward. He mentions disability benefits, so I thought I’d link the post for any of you who might be interested. Comments are very welcome, as always.

It may be helpful to Iain Duncan Smith if someone explained to him not all Benefits are FREE, Remember NI contributions are compulsory Goverments set the parameters for the amount and terms of receiving these Benefits. This part of the benefit system is no different to car insurance or house insurance.Goverment should stand by the agreement made when NI contributions were implemented, changing the parameters without giving the member chance to withdraw from the scheme is morally wrong if not illegal. The NI fund is currently £50 Billion in surplus and works well ,despite the last government leeching billions from the fund in a dubious manner and this government continuing to do so.It is basically the means tested benefits that cause a problem ,even so it is the duty of the administrator to police the scheme not the claimant.
