#DisabledRiotHelp

August 11, 2011

Well, dear readers, I’m still watching the news in shock. Now, as London cleans up and slowly recovers from the riots of the last few days, the disorder has spread to several other parts of England.

I’ve just found out about the Twitter hashtag #disabledriothelp which disabled people in any affected area can use if they need help, or want to help other disabled people. This is yet another example of Twitter working it’s special magic- please do follow it, I know I will be.

Thank you for this post SameDifference1.
I too watched with horror and disgust, as this recent “civil” unrest, taking storm across the country unfolded. My first thought was for other disabled, vulnerable people caught up in it.

My second thought – came to mind again as I watched Newsnight tonight, shouting at the tv – is of the cost; to people, families, homes, businessess, communities, entire districts – both financially and morally – to humanity at large.
What a fantastic influence on today’s already jaded youth are the perpetrators of this violent outburst of “woe is me, life owes me a living, it won’t fall into my lap – so let’s go rob and thieve from, and assault people, homes, property and businesses”.

Will the government use the financial cost of this atrocious state of affairs as yet more fuel for the “we gotta make cuts” fire? Methinks, very much perhaps, yes.
The system I paid well into until I became ill, has at every turn let me down.
Woe is me – but the fact I’m not well does not stop me from “running amok” in temper.
No, it’s the moral fibre of my being, and the fact my Mum would kill me, is why I do not!
Let the politicians pay to clean up this mess – not the most hard-done-by and vulnerable.

Thank you very much also for the epetition link about ditchPIP/keepDLA SameDifference1.
The fact it appears to be a government-handled epetition does not fill me with much confidence! I was shocked to see it had only 17 signatures, before it refused to allow me to complete my action. PLEASE EVERYONE, even if you are not disabled and think it will not affect you, remember that we are not all born disabled and you may find yourself in an impoverished future, relying on the camaraderie of a sympathetic demographic!!!
    PLEASE SIGN IT!!
