Jack Monroe’s ‘Apology’ To The DWP

You need to see the whole post –

I would like to publicly apologise to the Department of Work And Pensions for an inaccurate statistic in my Observer article yesterday on the grim reality of the welfare system in what was once ‘Great’ Britain.

In my article I stated that 2,400 people had died shortly after their Employment Support Allowance had been severed, having been (clearly wrongly) judged as Fit To Work.
The DWP informs me that the correct figure is in fact 2,380.

As they are so keen on accuracy, and transparency, I thought I should provide the rest of the stats.

Between December 2011 and February 2014, 50,850 people who were claiming ESA, died.
Of these, 7,200 had been judged as ‘able to return to work in the future’ and placed in the ‘work group’ category of ESA to undergo regular gruelling testing in order to continue to claim the pithy pittances they needed in order to stay alive. (For avoidance of doubt, humans do generally need food and shelter to survive.) Spoiler alert- THEY DIED.

On top of these, 2,380 people who had been stripped of financial support and judged fit to work, subsequently DIED.

Seeing the DWP are so very keen on accuracy that they send bollocking letters to my editor, I expect they will be now opening the case files of the 9,580 people in a 2 year period who DIED having been judged as ‘fit to work’ or ‘fit to work in the future’. God forbid I make 20 mistakes in the face of your 9,580.

Your move, DWP. Your fucking move.

    Here’s the story –

Well done Jack… well… as far as it goes… Why won’t you ask “Where are the Police?”

Ah yes… Leader of the DWP’s criminal abusers union PCS, Mark Serwotka, also writes for the guardian.

    “DIED” eh?

Any Labour Party criminals learnt how to read yet?

Hey, i’m freelance. None of the other Guardian writers are any of my business and I can’t possibly know every single one of them. That’s a bit disingenuous. Also I’m not a member of any political party and have actively criticised Corbyn relentlessly.

      >None of the other Guardian writers are any of my business
True… Having the leader of the DWP’s criminal abusers union PCS, Mark Serwotka write for them is the Guardians business… (I did not say it was yours)

It’s also something that people reading the Guardian **should be made aware of**.
At least with the Daily Mail you know that you’re getting pro-government racist, etc, hate.

      >That’s a bit disingenuous.
So how about answering the question that I *did* ask you –
*****Why won’t you ask “Where are the Police?”*****
Why isn’t that in your story?

      >Also I’m not a member of any political party
      >and have actively criticised Corbyn relentlessly.
      Good for you.

How about asking why blind eye turning, wilfully neglectful, criminal Jeremy Corbyn and his gang are not in prison yet?

How about asking what Jeremy Corbyn and his 17 Police Forces are doing about DWP crime?

How about asking what Jeremy Corbyns local governments are doing about the DWPs Vulnerable Adult Abuse? (I guess I could do a long list of all of those too).

How about asking why the Guardian won’t publish stories like that?

      Where are the Police?

The DWP are so corrupt it is unbelievable. you rounded up by a measly 20 people and the DWP try and claim you’re wrong, saying it was 2,380, I say f*ck ’em they round up when doing percentage statistics if it would be favourable to them but when the same is used against them they go ape! Can we be certain the 0.7% benefit fraud is fully accurate? Could it be 0.666% and they have rounded up to just one decimal place. Until recently the DWP refused to acknowledge any deaths due to their attacks of people on benefits, people can get round most of the things they say by asking for proof,
A watermarked copy of a letter, with proof of postage and proof of receipt. Video or photographic evidence that clearly shows that person being handed an open and readable copy of the letter they claim to have handed to the person. A list of the jobs they claim you didn’t apply for if they try that route, with a copy of how you was to apply and the phone number of the employer so their claim can be checked. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg as far as the DWP go.
