Have mixed feelings about this pic. It makes a powerful point that taking away benefits will not achieve anything and will make a lot of things worse. But doesn’t it contradict the struggle for disability rights and identity. It does somewhat play into the hands of those who think that being disabled is bad and would rather ‘make us better’ than accept us for who we are and recognise our rights.
I totally agree with making powerful statements about the impact of welfare reform on disabled people, but we must be careful not to do it at the expense of encouraging the patronising and pitying attitudes.
