Petition To Strip Professor Simon Wessely Of His Knighthood

Controversial professor Simon Wessely has been given a knighthood. Considering his opinions on ME, which I have covered here before, the ME community are understandably upset by this.

A petition has been started to strip him of this honour.  I have signed, please do the same if you agree.

    Should be put on trial for falsifying statistics and having vast conflicts of interest. The man is a vile specimen who has single-handedly brought the “honours”list into utter disrepute (not that it needed his help)

      Still, I suppose he belongs in the same league as “Sir” Jimmy Saville and “Sir” Oswald Mosley.

    I am a medical scientist suffering from ME/CFS, and find it bizarre that the psychological model promoted by Wessely et al has been allowed to infiltrate government, NICE and the NHS to the exclusion of evidence-based treatments. Sufferers are left to flounder in a deep pool of confusing and conflicting advice, given treatments that make their illness worse (so that they are even less likely to be able to return to work) or, if they are lucky, find more effective ways to manage the illness themselves.

    Professor Wessely has done terrible additional damage to sufferers from ME/CFS, GWS and the Camelford water poisoning incident, based on theories which have no scientific foundation. He has also robbed the country of the talents (and taxes!) of some of its most hard-working, motivated, able people by denying them the chance to recover from their illness.
