Hana Hwang Dies Aged 15
Dressed in a traditional Korean gown called “Han Book,” surrounded in her open casket by dozens of tiny stuffed penguins, fifteen-year-old Hana Hwang was remembered today as a determined and generous spirit who always ended up supporting and carrying the very people who came around to help support her.
Hana passed away January 24 from complications of Progeria, a condition in which a genetic mutation causes accelerated aging.
Hana’s passing follows two years of false online rumors of her death. Hana addressed those rumors and how she coped with them in a 2012 Fox 11 special report .
In the story she also shared her views on being different, the possibility of dying young, and why she might like to be reincarnated as a penguin.
Hana is survived by her Mother Kyung Sook, her brother Howard, and her father, Richard Hwang.
