This should go viral. Thinking it in your head is one thing, but writing it out loud is quite another, especially in the UK in the 21st century.
Thanks to reader Kim Cross.

This is MY local authority – Labour-controlled -joining in the ConDem policy of marginalising the poor, the jobless, the sick, the hopeless. Horrible.
Incredible
Maggie will be giggling in her grave!!
It’s a housing Association not a council , The council is not responsible for the lettings of housing Association so how is that Labours fault ,

Some of these could be private landlords who have been caught out before by bad benefit tenants who have done moonlight flits and/or caused a lot of damage to the property and they don’t want to risk it again. Housing associations usually do give preference to people working.
WDH is part of the council its a charity off shoot which is tied to Wakefield district council
WDH Definition of Employment for Homesearch (written in FAQs page)
You are deemed to meet the definition of employed:
If you are responsible for a child and work over 16 hours a week. If you are not responsible for a child and work at least 30 hours a week,
or
You have a disability and are currently in receipt of Incapacity Benefit or Disability Living Allowance, or you receive Employment Support Allowance and have been classed as in the Support Group.
or
You are claiming Carers Allowance, or qualify for the underlying payment of Carers Allowance.
or
You are Retired and in receipt of an Occupational Pension or State Pension.
Those definitions have been recently changed. WDH have never in the past refused anyone who is unemployed
That is shocking. It’s like having to prove you have a nice, fat bank account balance to get help from a food bank.
Why are they banging on about Housing Benefit?? When preferences will be given to the employed?? Didnt think people were entitled to HB whilst employed? Kid of contradicts itself.
Laura. Loads of working people receive housing benefit as their wages don’t cover their rent? If you earn a grand a month and have 2 kids and your rent is £800 how do you think people pay for food, coax, bills etc?
Zero hour workers, something brought in by wicked Labour, and carried on by another wicked party, along with Labour’s ATOS, and the rest, required Housing Benefit because of their situation. So they are employed but still are eligable for Housing Benefit. Basically it was New Labours way of sucking up to big business, make us pay to work by the back door. Lower wages, fewere hours, less employers contributions, which we then make up for in tax credits and Housing Benefit for the poorest workers.
