Tories Sending Out Fake Council Letters On Mansion Tax

January 11, 2015

Politicial Scrapbook report that Tory candidate Simon Marcus is sending out these letters to people  in Hampstead and Kilburn.

Reportedly, the letters are designed to look like genuine local authority notices:

Tory 'fake' council tax letter

Political Scrapbook has more, but as they say, vulnerable elderly people are likely to be very worried on receiving one of these.

How many other candidates are sending  similar letters?

If they can’t afford the Mansion Tax, they should be forced to downsize as those on the Bedroom Tax had to!

It could argued that the current high price of housing (and its effect on rent prices) has had a far greater impact in causing homelessness than those who live home with a spare bedroom. So a mansion on those who own a home over £2 million could be more appropriate than the bedroom tax and certainly more equitable. Politically, it will not happen as those who own homes over £2 million hold almost all the aces in the English political system. So it’s a good idea but will never happen as those with power will kill the mansion tax by one means or another.

Bah will have to complain to Simon Marcus as he didn’t send me one (#feelingleftoutbytoryscum) perhaps he forgot to send it out to me (although he keeps begging me to got out canvassing for him). Unfortunately this borough does have some expensive property. Enough to make it worthwhile adding 2-3 new bands to council tax.
But one area PPC Marcus forgets is that mass amounts of properties have been turned into HMO’s via buy to let. So there is a large amount of people in this constituency that would not have to pay as tenants. I have noticed he is keeping most of his canvassing to the Hampstead Health end with just a few visits to West Hampstead and 1 to Kilburn (allegedly they are out 2x weekly since before Christmas
