This Was The Most Tweeted About Comment In Last Night’s Leaders’ Debate

April 3, 2015

“Here’s a fact, and I am sure the other people here will be mortified that I dare to talk about it. There are 7,000 diagnoses in this country every year for people who are HIV positive. It’s not a good place for any of them to be, I know.

“Sixty per cent of them are not British nationals. They can come into Britain from anywhere in the world and get diagnosed with HIV and get the retro-viral drugs that cost up to #25,000 per year per patient.

“I know there are some horrible things happening in many parts of the world, but what we need to do is put the NHS there for British people and families, who in many cases have paid into the system for decades.”

Thanks to ITV News for the full quote and the Twitter statistics!

So he’ll provide drugs to people with any sickness or disability, as long as they’re British. Readers, I’m British Asian, so am thanking goodness at this moment that I don’t take any regular medication for my disability! If I did, would I lose it under a UKIP government?

No you wouldn’t. If you’re British. Ie hold legitimate residency, then you’d get treated. Whether it sounds wrong or not he was talking about people that come here on temporary passports/visas, have never paid into our national insurance system, yet because they know the loopholes they can be treated. When people who are born here or live here legitimately are denied cancer treating drugs & yet the abuse he highlighted from temporary visitors because they can’t get treated in their own countries can avail themselves of expensive treatments then he’s correct to say that is totally wrong. By the way I AM NOT RACIST!

If you have to say you’re not a racist, then the thing you are saying is obviously going to be racist. And what you said is. Do you have any statistics whatsoever that people who have HIV are coming to the UK to be diagnosed and get treated for free on our NHS?

I’ve looked for any research on that specific issue and so far there is nothing I could find. Mr Farage has no evidence for it either, he’s just trying to get people like yourself furious about a non-issue while appealing to the racist tenancies that exist in some of our UK population.

I’m well aware of the notion that people are supposedly coming over from them there foreign parts to get treatment on OUR NHS GOD DAMMIT!!! but since Mr Farage was being very specific about these 7,000 people being foreigners with HIV, I was trying to be equally specific in the evidence to prove his and you assertion. But there is no proof. This is dog whistle politics at it’s best.

Do you seriously think that there are 7,000 foreigners a year coming to the UK to steal ou NHS funds illegally? Why do you think he picked up on HIV rather that say Cancer? What about little girls who’ve had FGM in Africa turning up on their own who badly need re-constructive vaginal and labial surgery so they can have sex and give birth as adult women?

We know that there are many cases of both of those types of people with those conditions who come to the UK illegally who need the treatment as a matter of emergency. But Mr Farage didn’t mention those cases, because he knows you and people like you, are revolted by the notion of HIV and AIDS, gay men perhaps, fear of disease and viruses and black scary skin.

I pity you. You can’t think outside of the box that the politicians are manipulating you in. You can’t seem to see how narrow your view on life and how narrow your beliefs are, which makes you prime fodder for someone like Farage and his PR team to appeal to your baser nature, feelings and thoughts. I’m really glad I’m not you.

And that skit about Hadrian’s wall was a bit racist too. I’m not even Scottish but I thought it was very rude.

He did not mean it that way Sarah i believe and I don’t like him at all but like all of them last night they are not of a standard to be running of this country Switzerland and the likes maybe?

This country today has to have an inspiring independent leader a person who is world traveled someone that can automatically engage with other world leaders someone whose reputation precedes them someone that inspires confidence in others someone who at all times sounds the part and positive

With much regret none of them last night were what I would call adequate for various reasons even I myself would have brought to the table a much more insight into those questions

The main one missing as usual in all debates is why so many sick and disabled have died after going through welfare reform and through the bedroom tax as you know Mr Cameron the country is not aware of this, but they are now and I for one feel you are a going to put the lives of these groups in much danger over the next 5 years were you to remain prime minister. This country needs to know about what has gone on and now they know

And had that been put across last night just as i have worded it keeping it short and sweet that would have been the killer blow as i would at this point have all the deaths and names to hand on my clipboard

people say to me could this country do better and as always i have to say no. will it ever get any better the answer is no all the times the likes of David Cameron are breeding this country will never have a chance as his divide and rule policies always aim to keep the weakest in society at the bottom of the pile like so many other countries

All that happens with the likes of David Cameron and UKIP around you will find the only thing you can be sure of is a fragmented country just like most of the middle eastern countries with much pain and suffering handed out to the vulnerable

Even if i were to run this country i would find the going tough as the overall standards across the board are rock bottom and getting the public motivated and engaged in a different style would probably not be possible once upon a time yes but today no

So we had years of Labour rule – where was the equality in life there or in health care or in housing? When the Prime minister retired went on to buy an £ 11 million property portfolio off money made by his wife from. Challenging governments decision? Fair society under Labour. MY ARSE¡!!!!

fully agree Alan labour are just a very weak conservative way of thinking and are not the party for the future

it will be years before this country has a stable reliable honest leader if ever

Frankly, as UKIP’s leader has said that he wants to privatise healthcare in the UK, in the way that the US System is run (Why the US System, for heavens sake!) I believe that both White British Born and First Generation Immigrant Brits will be3 treated in EXACTLY the same way!! Under UKIP the NHS will not be free at the point of use for any of us.

samedifference1. politics aside… you ,in that one piece above, (and Ive been following your blog for quite some time now,) have just said something there that gave me quite a jolt.i too am not racist.i never gave a thought to what race ,colour or creed you were.in all your writings, on all the different subjects you have made me think, humanist. if i was to put a title to you at all. kind, caring, thoughtful, feeling, emotional, all the good things a person can be.
(and no i doubt you are perfect.. who is?lol)
but it gave me a jolt to realise, i hadn’t given any thought to your race, colour or creed.in all this time. even your gender i have never actually had any conscious thoughts about.if i thought at all about it,and thinking about it now, i had you down as a male.(why? i have no idea).. but.. for all i know you may be female.. it quite shocked me to think that Ive been “talking” to you as well as others on here, but i know nothing about any of those things.yet you come across as all those things i said earlier. rightly or wrongly, its how your words come over on the page.and that to me is how we all should feel/be. it just shows that it really does not matter in the slightest what gender you are, what religion, what colour your skin is or how you were brought up. at the end off the day you are ,what we all should be, a humane, loving, caring, human being who cares for his/her family, friends, neighbours, countrymen and country and hates what is happening to millions of people in the name of a democracy that is no longer that. terrible things being done to others which is being made possible by certain people, a minority in this country of Great Britain but a minority who have been brought up to believe that only they matter because they are aristocrats with millions in the bank. and therefore anyone not of their ilk, should be knocked down trodden on, made to suffer.
sorry for going on. but just felt the need to say all that.

Franklin Percival you asked for any evidence of any grain of truth in what Garage said allow me to submit this from another blogger BTW not a UKIP voter at the moment a floating voter totally unimpressed by anyone on Thursday evening TBPH.

NIGEL FARAGE WAS RIGHT ABOUT HEALTH TOURISM

Nigel Farage has been round condemned by the commentariat for suggesting that treating foreigners for free on the NHS was not right and that we should, like 46 other countries, not admit foreigners who are HIV positive.

The cost for treatment for HIV positive patients is some £20,000 or more for anti-retroviral drugs every year. Once HIV treatment is started, patients will probably need to take the medication for the rest of their lives. In total, the cost to the NHS couldfrom their early twenties.

Of the 107,800 people estimated by Public Health England to be HIV positive an astonishing 59,300 are originally from Africa. The cost to the NHS to treat just them alone with anti-retrovirals would be £1,186,000,000 per annum – and the numbers are rising. Such is the alarm at the cost that 20 Tory backbenchers (including former NHS GPs Dr Sarah Wollaston and Dr Phillip Lee) tried unsuccessfully to amend the Immigration Bill to make it law that before new immigrants enter the country, they must prove they are not HIV-positive and not suffering Hepatitis B – an equally devastating illness that is also incredibly costly to treat. The same demand that Nigel Farage made and George Osborne refused “to dignify with a response“.

Go into any London NHS hospital and you will find them full with non-English speakers, truly London is the capital of the world. The taxpayers who pay for the NHS are not stupid, the issue of health tourism is one which NHS users will have direct experience of in the waiting room. The issue is a real issue according to the latest polling research Guido could find, with 29% of the population blaming health tourism for long waits at Accident and Emergency, ahead of any government policy failings:

The NHS budget is not yet part of the foreign aid budget, nor should it be. Despite the distaste of the political class, the screams of outrage from the gay lobby and the commentariat, the facts are the facts. On this billion pound question Garage was right!!!

So make your own mind up but some of the leftwing luvies on here will tell you its fiction! But remember this is NHS ENGLANDS figures!!!

The truth my friends is out there however unpleasant it is to read!
