Labour’s ‘Mini Manifesto’ On Disability Issues Released Online Yesterday

April 21, 2015

Yesterday, the Labour Party released online this mini-manifesto specifically on disability issues.

Same Difference believes that this is the first document of its kind to be released by any political Party so far ahead of the 2015 General Election. We warmly welcome its release.

We also sincerely hope that the other political Parties will take the time to release similar documents in the coming three weeks.

Because by releasing this document, the Labour Party have shown disabled people that we and our issues matter to them.

I want & demand something more than an oversight of promises for all the disabled people of the UK.

At least it’s a start lets hope they carry out what they have pledged for everyone’s sake, we can’t carry on with this coalition as it is.

I have written several times to the Labour party telling them they can’t ignore the number of disadvantaged people suffering. If they want to lose millions of votes change track, maybe they have taken my concerns seriously.

I feel somehow that this is their last chance, along with the other parties, to be the party for all and to be fair to all. If not, then we need to move en mass to support the independents and the grass roots parties that are springing up all over the UK.

There are a lot of good points in the manifesto that show they have been listening to disabled peoples’ issues. At least we have a party willing to look again at the WCA, and include disabled people in decisions affecting them by working with them and allowing them places on the committees that address disabled issues. Scrapping the bedroom tax immediately will also do much to allay disabled peoples’ fears about losing their homes.

The coalition (Lib-Dems and Conservatives) are a thing of the past and Labour will be if they don’t keep their promises we already know that party leaders effectively go for very safe seats, or is it just that they get the votes because they are a party leader? I would like to see all party leaders lose their seats in May and many conservative MPs as well

Removal of changes to medical criteria and change from DLA to PIP, should be scrapped and revert to using specialist and GPs from the NHS, would be a must to show a return to fair and honest assessments.

    WRONG

The news blackout on the real anti austerity parties have had disability policies long ago, ignored by national press and TV news.

SNP SAID DISABILITIES POLICIES DURING THE LEADERS’ DEBATE

What SNP Leader Nicola Sturgeon said on the Leaders’ Debate
    http://www.snp.org/media-centre/news/2015/apr/snp-challenge-westminster-disability-benefit-cuts

…”Rolling out Personal Independence Payments (PIPs) to replace Disability Living Allowance will see over 100,000 working age disabled people in Scotland lose some or all of their benefit by 2018 – representing a cut of £300 million a year, with a loss of at least £1,120 a year per person who loses out. Some 47,000 disabled people in Scotland are expected to lose up to £2,964 a year as a consequence of changes in eligibility to the mobility component.

At UK level, the cut in disability benefit represents nearly £3 billion a year by 2017/18, with over a million people losing out.

The SNP propose a modest increase in public spending in real terms in order to stop proposed cuts – and support halting the roll out of Personal Independence Payments to stop the “savage cuts” to disability benefits.” …”Labour’s track record in Scotland is voting with the Tories and Lib Dems against halting the roll-out of PIPs.” …

Policies and MP candidates – 113 MP candidates throughout England, total 135 candidates the other few in Wales and Scotland.

This has been on TUSC’s website for years, to my memory.

    DECENT PENSIONS AND BENEFITS
    Abolish the bedroom tax.
Reverse cuts to benefits; for living benefits; end child poverty. Scrap benefit sanctions.
Restore the pre-Thatcher real value of pensions. Reverse the increases imposed on the state retirement age, creating jobs for younger people.

STOP THE ATTACKS ON DISABLED PEOPLE
Promote inclusive policies to enable disabled people to participate in, and have equal access to, education, employment, housing, transport and welfare provision.
Support measures to ensure disabled people receive a level of income according to needs. Equal pay for equal work.

    THE LEFT UNITY PARTY
    http://leftunity.org/manifesto-2015-equality/

Been on their website ages as well:

    Disabled people

Left Unity acknowledges that disability is the result of the social oppression of people with physical and/or intellectual impairments, and people with severe emotional distress. Left Unity is committed to involving disabled people in all areas of policy, practice and decision-making, and learning from their experience.

The Work Capability Assessment (WCA) has been misused to force disabled people off benefits and has caused distress and poverty. It is unfit for purpose and must be scrapped (see Social Security) – the results will be the same whether ATOS runs it or any other contractor. Disabled people should be supported to work but never penalised by the benefits system.

Other benefit cuts, justified using unfair media attacks on benefit claimants, are having a disproportionate effect on disabled people. The Independent Living Fund and Disability Living Allowance should be reinstated – these are vital benefits for basic day-to-day life.

As a party Left Unity supports disabled people’s campaigns and aims to be accessible to all.
