The ‘disabled’ are exempt from the benefit cap? Not even Severe Disablement Allowance exempts

    Why would a couple with 2 children receive MORE than a couple with 3 or 4 children? At worst, they should be the same.

    As it stands, children of either gender can share a bedroom up to the age of 10 years. After that, children of different genders are entitled to separate bedrooms:

    e.g.

    i) Girl, 10 and boy, 8 are entitled to a bedroom each, plus parents = HB for a 3-bed house.

    ii) Girl, 10 and girl, 8 are to share a bedroom, plus parents = HB for a 2-bed house.

    iii) Girls, 10 and 8, and boy, 7 are entitled to 2 bedrooms, plus parents = HB for a 3-bed house

    iv) Girls, 13 and 10, and boys, 11 and 8 are entitled to two bedrooms, plus parents = HB for 3 bedroom house

    As ever, a great piece Joe which applies the figures in a way we all understand. I have been under the wrong impression that the benefit cap reductions would not affect many people in Liverpool, but I can see from the figures that anyone with 3 children or more will likely be affected. I note your point that Councils can only receive back the entitlement to HB rate back from the Government if they use temporary accommodation. I take it that this only applies ‘if’ temporary accommodation is used and not if they choose to top up the tenant’s rent through a DHP? Do you know any more about what ‘household’ means? Hopefully, it only includes the actual tenant claimant’s income and not also the adult children’s income also living in the property – though I know benefit calculations currently do account for non dependant charges. Is this going to stay the same?

    With the current system being disabled does not mean you even get any allowance many seem to be exempted from claiming anyrthing.
