IMPORTANT An Assessment Tip From Fightback

Assessment tip
Do you know if you get an assessment appointment through, and are not given 7 days notice of it, then you can have it changed without it affecting your one chance to change the appointment.

Make sure when you ring them that they understand you were not given adequate notice, as explained in their own assessor handbook for ATOS and Capita, and rearrange. You can rearrange usually over the phone to an appointment that suits you better (time permitting,) and usually they can only do this up to 2 weeks in advance, sometimes 3. Alternatively you can ask for a computer generated one to be posted, but be warned, it can spit out one that is a 40 mile trip away if not manually selected.

If you want to change an appointment because its inconvenient, you generally can do this once only by calling the number on the letter. If they say no then ring back. There are quite a few advisors who don’t appear to understand the rules, and generally you will get a more helpful one if you redial.

Most importantly READ our notes before you go to ensure you know what to expect. Michelle

A way to f*ck them about if it’s ESA is to get it changed, if they have given less than 7 days notice, then less than 72 hours before, but more than 48 hours before, call them and ask for it recording, there is only a small window, 24 hours, otherwise you might have to go through an assessment without it recording. They will, possibly cancel the appointment even on the day, sometimes they claim you don’t need a F2F because they have received additional information, the person should then send a SAR as they have been awarded ESA, asking for the following info:

    The ESA85
The decision makers score sheet (you don’t get one with paper assessments)
    The ESA113
    THE LT54
    A copy of the ESA72
All the info they used to make the decision
A date after which you will receive another ESA50, or appointment (essential especially if you get the phrase “A RETURN TO WORK IN THE LONGER TERM IS NOT ADVISABLE.”) in the report, or just to be nosey. The above phrase means at least two years so should be two years from the date on the assessment, whether it’s paper or F2F
