Of course it does. Society treats men and women differently and this carries through to gendered attitudes toward/treatment of disabled people. Blind/VI females elicit more instinctive sympathy and support. Blind/VI males are seen as lazy or stupid. This stems from traditional gender roles where women are to be saved/protected and where men are supposed to do all the saving/providing.
