Ken Loach Wants ESA Cuts Outlawed

November 14, 2016

Award-winning filmmaker Ken Loach calls on the chancellor to “outlaw” planned cuts to Employment Support Allowance.

Speaking to the Westminster Hour’s Sam Macrory about his latest film , Daniel Blake, Mr Loach said the 30% cuts to new ESA claimants from April 2017 would be “cutting money from the most vulnerable”.

Do I think the government will listen to Ken Loach? Unfortunately probably not.

Being disabled and safe from these planned cuts isn’t going to stop me caring what happens to new claimants. There but for the love of God go I – I’m not religious but I appreciate the sentiment. Nobody asks to be disabled, not even temporarily but often unfortunately this condition is permanent, life is hard enough when you are disabled but to have financial hardship added to your burden by your own government is beyond cruelty!
