UK Disability History Month 2016: Disability And Language
There will be no further posts today. Our editor will be at this event. If you spot her, please come over and say hello!

The theme for UKDHM in 2016 will focus on the language used to describe disabled people and the language disabled people use to express themselves. This includes literature, theatre, history, oral history and coverage in the newspapers and other print media. Through the lens of language we will seek to gain a greater understanding of our oppression in the past and now. Through human rights and the social model approach to disability, barriers can be removed to bring about disability equality.
Name calling and bullying is a key issue. It is crucial to show the origin of disablist language and the history it comes from.
Launch Event-Language and Disability,( speakers include John McDonnell, MP) 6pm, 22nd November, Kings Place, 90 York Way,N1 9AG.
