Philpott Family: Were Benefits To Blame?

April 4, 2013

Like most sensible people, I agree with Pamela Nash.

Mick Philpott, who killed his children when he set fire to their house, will be sentenced later today.

Many UK newspapers have questioned whether the case should be seen as an isolated incident or whether it tell the story of a wider picture.

In the Daily Mail Andrew Wilson said that those six children were killed not only by their father but also by the welfare system, which has been corrupted beyond repair. The front page of the Mail had the headline: “Vile product of Welfare UK”.

The reaction was meat with outrage by others, including Labour MP Pamela Nash.

Speaking to the Today programme’s Sarah Montague, Mr Wilson explained that the benefits were the “motives for this terrible crime”.

Pamela Nash said that the Daily Mail head line was “repugnant” and said that it was “offensive to those throughout the UK who survive on benefits” to link this crime to welfare.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Thursday 4 March 2013.

The political thinking in the UK is getting like north Korea in which the politicians of the day speak utter drivel on the lower classes and in particularly the sick and disabled of which they have no experiences of whatsoever apart from David Cameron who in reality should be setting a much better example as he knows from when his son was alive how difficult looking after someone is

He has failed terribly in this area of what i would have thought he was an expert in and in reality should be setting a much better example in that anyone long term sick and disabled is at risk of dying at any time if neglected in the care that they are receiving

David Cameron knows that better then anyone as his son had the very best in care but regrettably still died

for most sick and disabled people their care is not as it should be hence their premature death and we need the likes of David Cameron to stand well distanced from the newspapers and IDS and come out and make a personal stand and fully get behind sick and disabled people and sack all of those that are out to condemn them

As for Mick philpott and the likes of him they are just evil people who have been around since time began and rich or poor it would have made no difference and welfare should never be used in this context that welfare was to blame for him killing his family that is just sick

my wife comes from one of the poorest countries in the world Sudan and she lost all of her family and many relatives over the past 20 years to miner illnesses and has suffered mentally more then most probably anyone in the uk but she still has a smile and offers help to anyone and she as a carer to me is the very best that you could get and i would be dead without her she’s world class and her friends of some who don’t even speak English would agree with me
