Capita assessors STILL refusing to disclose qualifications

September 29, 2015

Despite the DWP informing Capita it is a “requirement” that PIP assessors must reveal qualifications, it transpires that in Leicester at least, this information has not been passed down.

Last Tuesday Nicki, one of DEAEP’s Peer Supporters went along with a customer to the local Capita Assessment centre; when she asked for the medical qualifications of Stuart the assessor, she was told it was Capita policy this information was withheld?

I’m making no suggestion this will have any influence on the decision, but it does make me wonder how much the DWP requires of assessors, is communicated to them?

I’d be interested to know if anyone else has had this experience?

I had a PIP assessment in NW Wales ealier this year. I suffer from Primary Generalised Osteoarthritis, a genetic condition. The assessor was from Capita and my first question to her when we sat down was what are your qualifications to assess my condition and how it affects me. She was a retired Psychiatric Nurse. To be fair she spent a lot of time listening and prompting and my claim was successful. Much to my surprise I got high rate mobility and low rate care as before. I was morphing from DLA to PIP. Since then I told the DWP I would be away in France (warm sun) for a month or so and my PIP was stopped for some six weeks without explanation and subsequently restarted in exactly the same terms as before. I suspect that if you tell them you are going away they leap at the chance to stop your award. As soon as I saw my PIP had been stopped I let them have up to date treatment information and asked them to treat my letters as a request for a mandatory reconsideration. Beyond the notice of my original award updated I got no explanation at all! While this was going on I made a ‘Subject Access’ request and am now beginning to get that information but none of it is up to date yet.

What are you thinking?
