Former ESA Claimant Writes To His MP On WRAG Cuts
Reader Leon Carter recently shared his letter to his MP about WRAG cuts on Facebook:
Dear Alan Mak,
I write to you today seeking answers as to why you voted for the £30 a week cut to Employment Support Allowance.
I do not want to here the Conservative Party line that it will move those in the WRAG Group closer to work as that is pure baloney and founded on very flimsy evidence if any at all.
The truth is it will move these people further away from employment and if the Conservatives really were truthful in there aim they would never have closed Remploy that gave the long term ill and disabled citizens the best chance there was in moving back into employment.
I was an ESA recipient until October 2013 when the DWP striped the allowance from me and thus know very well how this vile shoddy department works as they literally hounded me for the crime of suffering an SAH/Stroke.
I now live of just the care component of DLA at the middle rate not a lot at just over £200 a month and now fear the day when the hounding part 2 starts when the conversion to PIP starts as I know you will take that too and this time I will hold you responsible as my MP
Are Conservative MP’s not aware that the ill and disabled have additional costs over and above what a health unemployed citizen has.
It is a menial amount of money to you MP’s but to a citizen who has just this income it is a lot of money and a cut of a third, I do wonder how you can justify another pay-rise this year given the large one you had last year too.
I hope that you can give good reason for this cut you are hell-bent on pushing through, even going to the lengths of parliamentary privilege which in this case is nothing of the sort and is merely an abuse of power for which I hope the lords will recognise this fact.
I look forward to reading your reply

I wish you the very best in your endeavours, but I dont hold out much hope for you unfortunately. As a disabled man, with both physical & mental impairments, I am also dreading the transfer to PIP myself. As far as the Tories are concerned, I wouldn’t trust them as far as I could through them. I will not get on my high horse right now, suffice to say I still dont believe the result of last year’s general election. But as I said I wont get on my high horse. As I said at the top though, I wish you all the best in your endeavours.
