About being a Wheelchair user fact number one people seem to think you are deaf when you use a Wheelchair and bend down to you and talk to you like you don’t understand even though you’ve clearly got full capacity and you’re trying to order a drink for self at a café for example, fact number two when you ask someone for something in a restaurant they look at your Carer and ask the Carer what would she like yet? You’re clearly sitting there trying to attempt to talk to them fact number three there is never enough drop curbs for you as a Wheelchair user when accessing your Community fact four there is very little accessible tube trains when you want to access London or any other places that able body person would get to on a tube.Fact five you can very rarely reach the shelves in a supermarket due to the height of them. They don’t think about accessibility in supermarkets unless it comes to self service checkout but they don’t actually think how is a person in a wheelchair and to buy something on the top shelf fact six when people try and get through but don’t bother saying excuse me when you are a Wheelchair user they just stand directly behind you or just barge past you when they could just say excuse me like you would able body person seven about Wheelchair that you get from the Wheelchair service don’t have any suspension and this is interesting to me because you would’ve thought they would treat it in the same way that you would treat trying on shoes but a lot of the time they do not with a Wheelchair unfortunately fact seven on a Wheelchair Services Wheelchair they always make the belt get stuck underneath the seat when you are transferring because they don’t design it with transfers in mind this is also very interesting to me because you would’ve thought you know this person transfers from so you would design the belt that keeps the person safe so that it wouldn’t go beneath the seat when transferring at all.when stationary without you in it as a Wheelchair user when you do position changes fact eight people always think that being in a Wheelchair affects your intellect and this is interesting because you’re in a wheelchair because your legs don’t work it doesn’t affect your cognitive abilities that other disabilities they do that but people that don’t know you presume that being in a Wheelchair affect your cognitive functioning what is interesting to me because we’re in 2026 right now and you would’ve thought people would be more educated as are Wheelchair users everywhere for all sorts of reasons most not affecting interact and even so that is not being in a Wheelchair that affects that is what you call cognitive disability but people think its the Wheelchair that affects it.
