UK government set for UN grilling in Geneva over ‘breaches of disability rights’

June 9, 2016

Benefit tales

The UK government is set to face a grilling from UN experts next week over its alleged breaches of international obligations on disabled people’s human rights.

The government will be examined on Wednesday and Thursday (15 and 16 June) by the UN committee on economic, social and cultural rights on its record on issues such as social security, employment, housing, health and education.

The discussions will take place in public, in Geneva, Switzerland, with the committee’s findings likely to be published the following week.

A list of issues published by the committee – one of 10 bodies that monitor the implementation of the UN’s main human rights treaties – shows that among its concerns is the steps the government has taken to ensure that “austerity measures” introduced through the 2012 Welfare Reform Act do not “disproportionately affect” the rights of “disadvantaged and marginalized individuals and groups”, including disabled people.

whoever is in attendance they need to make sure that all deaths of the sick and disabled are up to date and the website remember the dead is as up to date as it can be

however all deaths of those that lived alone will not have been recorded by the press and one will need to contact the coroners office for those deaths of how they came to die and under what circumstances

all deaths of the sick and disabled need to treated with the same care and attention as you would as with a murder

to just say ah well they were sick of course they would die is plain wrong

Does anyone really think that the UN is going to do anything at all about one of it’s Security Council members other than a bit of hot air blowing and posing?
Just look at how ‘lovely’ some of the UN’s other members are. :/

The full story mentions Disability Rights UK. Any story quoting or linking to that lot should mention just how much cash they are getting to provide ahem.. ‘training’ for the dwp / Maximus. :/

Shameless plug – do you think that the UN might be interested in my latest post?
It took eleven months to do, but that’s Witness Intimidation on someone with PTSD for you:/
(more on that in my next post….)

What are you thinking?
